The R|age Field Manual is an ongoing document produced by Richard A. Jacobson.

Each iteration of the manual is numbered and dated. The document remains under continuous revision and may be updated, expanded, or altered without notice.

While the manual references the exhibition R|age, it is not limited to that project. The Field Manual forms part of the artist’s larger body of work and documents conditions encountered across an extended period of artistic practice.

The document contains elements of several forms, including a sketchbook, a diary, and an observational record. It is not reducible to any one of these. Instead it functions as a continuous art project that records fragments of process, reflection, structural study, and field observation.

Digital versions of the manual circulate freely and may change over time as entries are added or revised.

Physical editions will periodically be produced. These printed versions may diverge from the digital document through annotation, alteration, inserted material, or variations in binding. As a result, no physical edition should be assumed to replicate the digital version exactly.

The manual records conditions encountered during a life of making.

It does not resolve them.
