dad’s screwdriver
watercolor on bfk Rivers printmaking paper
27.94 x 15.24 cm (11 x 6 in)
The handle is worn where his hand held it most.
He was the one people called when something didn’t work.
A door that wouldn’t close.
An engine that wouldn’t start.
A hinge that sagged.
They called.
He came.
He fixed it.
A flathead screwdriver.
Still works.
Note:
During a summer visit, I saw this lying on the bench.
The handle had been shaped by years of grip.
I decided to paint it.
